I bought a take away roasted unagi and teste was so good. Recommended
The price is crazy but it is the best Unagi in Tokyo. Nice serene location; the iconic little green building. Went in December and the weather is cool so it's still alright for the long wait, (cannot imagine queuing up in summer). After the queue outside, you will be usher inside to the waiting area. Traditional Japanese house setting. When you sit there, you will understand why the long wait... The place is very small. When it's finally your turn, you will be so happy and deeply appreciate the holy grail of all Unagi🙌🏼Friendly owner but they should consider changing the rules. Every patron have to order a set of Unagi with rice. It would be nice if young kids can share a meal as they cannot finish it alone.
Long wait around an hour. Ok unagi, I like my unagi to have a little bit of crispness around the edges this was just soft. It wasn't hot either, just like warm which was disappointing. Also it was really expensive, like 35$ for the regular size.
I ordered a regular eel rice ¥3500 which came with a soup and some pickled stuff . A lady grilled the eel in front of you on top of some charcoal , it tasted great !
Love everything from the eel on rice, right down to the soup and pickles! Worth the visit and the wait 40-minute wait.
Authentic taste and good service
Now I can cross out tasting the best Unagi rice off my bucket list. Worth dying for.
If you want to find a delicious unagi (fresh eel) you should never miss this place, unagi is smell so good, cover skin is a bit crispy and meat is extremely tender and tasty, this is our second time and we still love unagi here.
Long wait, small portion. Nice, but not amazing, doesn't feel worth the wait.
Warm welcome from the boss! Sweet aroma of grilled eel filled the whole restaurant. Fatty eel grilled with homemade sweet soy sauce topped on steamed rice. Just perfect!
It's too good...A must try.. even for non-eel eater...
The food were delicious but the prices were a a high side. It costs approximately 4000 yen for a large lunch box and 700 for a skewer of unagi liver.
They know their eel here. The tare that they use is amazing, not as sweet as ones that you'd normally get. The eels are cooked to perfection. The waiting area is very comfortable and the service is very good. The wait is worth it.Prices are very reasonable, on the cheap side when it comes to eel in Japan to be honest. I've been to a lot of eel specialty places in Japan but nowhere has beaten this place. I don't feel like I've arrived in Japan yet until I go and eat here.
If you don’t mind waiting for about 45 mins to an hour during lunch hour, this is a must eat. The restaurant only has approximately 13 seats. We ordered half unagi. Would recommend you to get the full unagi which will cover the whole bento box. Charcoal cooked unagi with very good quality Japanese rice.
This little restaurant has been around since 1861 - I'd attribute the perfect sauce to the time they've had perfecting it. We arrived on a Tuesday at 11:15AM and were fortunate to be numbers 10 and 11 in line (the shop seats 12). We happily shared a table with another duo. The restaurant is cramped but you don't think about it as your senses are distracted by the slightly sweet smell of sauce coming off the charcoal grill, the glisten off the unagi, and the flavour profile on your tongue.
Eel is grilled by charcoal in the traditional way. Taste extremely good! Note:There are only 12 seats and the shop is tiny so it is not suitable for people carrying luggages and infants. Need to queue up an hour before it opens (open at 1130 am). Don’t expect the service as it is a traditional small restaurant providing world class quality eel rice only.
Delicious and pricey, suggest to go with half portion😋
This is definitely the BEST Unagi Rice I've ever had in my life! I had few in the past years in Osaka and Tokyo, but this one is the most traditional and original. They use raw and fresh Una, dipped them in grilled sauce and put them on charcoal grill. The sauce is light and not thick, sweet but not too salty, just perfect with the grilled Una and with japanese rice. The meat of Una is tender but it is not too soft like other fake Unagi store. You can still see and taste the straws of muscle fibre, as you can see the close up picture. It's quite expensive, costed 4800YEN (45USD) for a large Unagi rice, but it's totally worth it. There are not many chance in my life to have such amazing Unagi Rice.
Must try if you have time.Just about 10 seats. Waiting about 1hour, however it was my most favorite unaju that i have ever try.
Good taste. Small place. Wait for a long time.
I was very lucky on 02/25/19 at around 13.00. I had to wait just 10 mins and only three people infront. My third time to visit the restaurant.
Authentic traditional BBQ Eel rice set ( unagi donburi). Not heavily steeped with yakitori (sweet) sauce like those sold in supermarkets. Where you can still taste the freshness of the eel itself.
Reviewing this after 2 months. Went to the restaurant after reading about it from a guide book. Saw a short queue when I reached the place during lunchtime. But don't be misled. There is a small waiting area inside the restaurant which can packed about 8+ pple. In the end I waited for about an hour before I was seated. Menu is simple. I ordered the biggest portion version and it was a huge bento of rice. Wish it was more unagi though. Overall I did not find the food any special and it was not cheap.
